George Greenwell Richards, loving husband, father, grandfather,great-grandfather and friend, returned to his Heavenly Father onWednesday, January 7, 2009. George was born on June 18, 1924 in SaltLake City, Utah, the son of Laurence W. Richards and LorettaGreenwell Richards. He graduated from East High School and theUniversity of Utah. He married Eleanor Smith Patrick on September12, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for over 62years and were the parents of four children.

George was a chemistry teacher at Olympus High School for over 30years and also worked for the Metropolitan Water District for manyyears as their chemist. He loved his students and helped them reachtheir scholastic goals. He spent many after school hours with hisstudents and was recognized for his dedication to his profession.

He was a faithful and dedicated member of the LDS church and hada very strong testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He served inmany church positions including gospel

doctrine teacher, counselor in the Bishopric, Bishop, HighCounselor, Counselor to Stake President and one of his greatest joyswas serving as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple.

He loved to spend time with his family and especially go fishingwith his sons, grandsons and great-grandsons. His family was hisgreatest wealth and gave him his greatest happiness. His loss willleave an unfillable void in the lives of his family.

George is survived by his wife,

Eleanor; sons George P. (Pat), Briant P. (Jeannie), W. Charles(Holly) and his beloved daughter Loretta Neil (Dan); 12grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren (two more on the way).Preceded in death by his parents, brother Laurence G. Richards.

Funeral services will be held

Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, 12:00 Noon, in the Sego Lily Ward Chapel,10310 South Ashley Park Drive (2130 East), Sandy, Utah. A viewingwill be held on Sunday evening, January 11, 2009, at the CannonMortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. andthe day of the service at the church from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m.Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 South HighlandDrive.
