Obituary: Calvin Edward Gill - Deseret News (Salt Lake City)

Calvin Edward Gill, 83, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2003 in SaltLake City after several years of declining health.

He was born December 9, 1919 in Weston, Idaho to Alfred Orin Gilland Lena Anna Kern. He married Wanda Helen Bell on October 16, 1941in Weiser, Idaho. This marriage was later solemnized in the Salt LakeTemple. Wanda passed away in March of 1985. He married Dessie Smithon October 4, 1985. She passed away in May of 2002.

Calvin was raised in Franklin and Oneida Counties in SouthernIdaho. Much of his youth was spent working on the farms of hisparents and relatives. After high school, he attended WeiserVocational Institute in Weiser, Idaho. Calvin and his family lived inBoise, Idaho for 15 years before moving to Salt Lake City in l959.During his life, he worked for several dairies including Hi-LandDairy of Murray. He was a faithful member of the Church of JesusChrist of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities throughout hislife, including being a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple. Hishappiest hours were spent with members of his immediate and extendedfamily.

Survivors include his son, Francis C. Gill (Deanna) of SouthJordan; daughter, Pamela Henrie (Ron) of Pleasant View, Utah; son,Theron L. Gill (Estelle) of Rigby, Idaho; son, Douglas O. Gill ofSalt Lake City; daughter, Nita Malzahn (Marty) of Sandy; 15grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He is also survived bysisters, Velma Stokes, Murtaugh, Idaho; Norma Rindlisbacher, Payson,Utah; and Edith Cardoza (Bert), Palo Alto, CA. He was preceded indeath by his wives, parents; brother, Weldon, Elman and Marion;sisters, Asenath and Rene; and granddaughter, Kimberley Ann Gill.

The family would like to thank the staff of Cordia SeniorResidence, St. Mark's Family Medicine Residency, and Haven HomeHealth Care for their excellent service to Calvin.

Funeral services will held Saturday, April 12, 2003, at 11 a.m. atLDS Church Crescent View Stake Center, 11626 South 300 East, Sandy,Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Friday atDeseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, and one hour prior at theChurch. Interment: Redwood Memorial Estates.
